We have had such an exciting month with all of our families and team workers. Weather has been beautiful with all the different changes of the fall season. Homecoming day went perfectly with loading our family on a Veterans float and with great volunteers to ride along with them, load them and drive vehicles. We had another float which did say "We’re still Kickin’" and the football players yelled with excitement as we went by. We also had two golf carts and a pickup with our king & queen. Kammi Beneke walked alongside of Harold Lundberg who is a disabled Veteran and he was very proud. We all had so much fun and we’ll do this again next year. We had 27 of our loved ones out and they all were very patient with the waiting and said they heard people yelling their name and they had a great time throwing the candy too. Some said they weren’t sure they wanted to go and so glad that they did. We also had wives who had signs honoring their late husbands who were Veterans also. It just brought tears to all of our eyes when we saw the joy in theirs. The Pocahontas Manor Team keeps sharing stories of what people have had to say about the Manor floats. We walk with our heads high because we are so proud of the job that we did as a team for this to turn out as good and as wonderful as it was for our loved ones that we love to take care of at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center. Ragbrai Riders/July 23rd
Never to busy or in a hurry to stop and see a loved one at the Pocahontas Manor. That is what I thought when I saw Craig Oskow from Plymouth Minnesota & Eddie Fullmer from Abileen Texas. They were some of the Ragbraiers coming across Iowa and went out of their way to see Audrey Peterson, a very special person to them, and us who work & live here at the Manor. She was very pleased to see them. Audrey worked for Craig and his family many years while she was in Minneapolis and was acquainted with Eddie too.. Thanks Guys!

The Pocahontas Manor participated in the Relay for Life held in Pocahontas on Friday June 29th at Elbert Park. Scott & Meghan Ernst, Kammi Beneke & Jeff Shearer tied for first place in the frozen T-shirt contest. Also the Pocahontas Manor Proud Walkers Team were chosen for the Great Team Spirit Award. The team raised over $800.00 for cancer research. Great job done team!

There was a TV Land lap and our team chose Gilligans Island. Don’t we look just like the show? I think so.

Stacy & Jenny Benna & Allison North, sold Root beer floats on the Island with all proceeds for relay for life

This work was all for a great cause and our team had a super fun time and participated in all the events except the Elvis impersonator. Our area was decorated like an Island and was full of bright colors and Island decorations, including real coconuts. We sold lots of Root beer floats at the Relay for Life event before and were asked if we would sell them again this year. Can't wait until next year and we'll do it all again, it was worth all the work. What a great team we have from the Pocahontas Manor and with such great team work.
